It’s UK Fungus Day today.
There are many many different types of fungi – classifications and relationships are still being expounded by experts. Sometimes sparsity of knowledge can be intriguing but with fungi the more knowledge acquired the more fascination grows.
We’ve collected a few photos of mushrooms – fruiting bodies of fungi – found in and around the North York Moors at this time of year, to illustrate the fantastical shapes and colours and fundamental weirdness of this kingdom.
Identifying between mushroom types is difficult. Don’t touch fungi, and definitely don’t eat it, unless you know what you’re doing and are absolutely sure what it is.
