North York Moors Top 10 flora

Ami Walker – Lead Land Management Adviser

These are my Top 10 of wild flowers and grasses that you can see round about now in the surviving meadows, uncultivated grasslands and road verges of the North York Moors.

These are some of the wild flowers and grasses that make up a species rich (semi natural) grassland habitat. The more the number of different plants present, the more species rich the grassland is. Because of the plants the habitat also supports insects including pollinators, birds and small mammals. The bigger, better, more connected the fragments of species rich grassland, the greater the chance that the plants and insects and birds and small mammals can disperse, increase, and their populations become more secure.

Thinking of creating your own species rich grassland/mini meadow in the North York Moors – have a look here.
